April 24, 2019

Adjacent to the south of Beijing Fund Town, there used to be a royal palace built in Qing dynasty in 1748 – Nanzheng Palace. Now, it is gone long after more than two centuries of vicissitudes, but the 27 Qianlong's Royal Poem Tablets in the palace have been miraculously preserved to tell the story in a special way.

Qianlong's Royal Poem Tablets Survives 200 Years

It is recorded that emperor Qianlong built his Nanzheng palace in the beautiful Changgou town. In 1940, after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan (1937-1945), " Changgou elementary school jointly built by the sixth, seventh and eighth districts" was founded in Changgou, and 27 royal poem tablets in the Nanzheng Palace were used to build the school.

Among them, there are 24 inlaid on the classroom wall, and the remaining 3 are on the outer wall. So, it is a real blessing that the 27 Qianlong Royal Poem Tablets, preserved in this special way after more than 200 years, are still largely intact today.

The Financial Highland Blessed with Qianlong Royal Poem Tablets

Among the 27 poem tablets that Qianlong left in Changgou, 24 can be seen with 33 poems written by Qianlong, which cover a wide range of contents and fully reproduce the history of the heyday of the Qing dynasty – the flourishing age under Qianlong’s governance. The poem tablets are 166cm wide and 100cm high. They are written during the period from the 5th year of emperor Qianlong's reign (1740) to the 23th year of his reign (1758).

Now, the blueprint of Beijing fund town has been quietly mapped out in Changgou wetland known as “village surrounded by green river”. The 27 Qianlong Royal Poem Tablets guarding here have endowed this beautiful financial highland with rich historical heritage and cultural deposits.
