The 46th Wisdom Meeting of Beijing Fund Town | Chinese and Foreign Experts Discuss in Depth the Modernization of Medical System in Beijing Fund Town

 The modernization of the medical and healthcare sector is a key component of China's "the Two Centenary Goals" which should be realized by 2049. With the rise of medical care cost, the aging population and the increasing demand for medical services, China urgently needs to take practical measures to strengthen the capacity-building of the medical and healthcare system.

Today, the seminar on "the Modernization of China's Medical System: Preliminary Evaluation on Prospects and Policy Objectives" was held in Beijing Fund Town.

Like China, the United States faces similar challenges in the medical and healthcare sector. At this seminar, Chinese and foreign scholars and policy experts have conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the research topics of the modernization cooperation of China's medical system, and on many aspects in medical services such as public and private financing, medical payment and value-based medicine, technology, innovation and supervision and future cooperation between China and the United States.

Keynote Address

Li Jiange, former deputy director of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) and chairman of The Sun Yefang Economic Science Fund, shared his research and opinions on the status quo, prospects, challenges and policy objectives of China's medical system modernization under the topic of "Challenges Faced by the Modernization of China's Medical System".

Dialogue Discussion

Many important people had a one-day in-depth discussion and exchange, including Zhu Hengpeng—deputy director of the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and director of the public policy research center under the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fang Jin—secretary-general of the China Development Research Fund, Mark B. McClellan—former director of the U.S. Federal Health Care Administration and director of Food and Drug Administration, Gail R. Wilensky—former director of the U.S. Federal Health Care Administration, an expert advisor on medical health and a senior researcher of the U.S. Bush Administration, Peter R. Orszag—former director of the management and budget office of the U.S. Obama Administration, director of the Congressional Budget Office and member of economic advisory committee of the Clinton Administration, Yang zhou—an expert on financial reform of the U.S. federal medicare plan and a consultant on medical policy for the U.S Disease Control and Prevention Center, Li Weiping—a researcher from the research center of National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, Shao Rong—dean of the international medical business school of the China Pharmaceutical University, and other experts from relevant institutions in this field.

This seminar, jointly organized by the public policy research center under the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Development Research Fund, the "Comparison" Editorial Office and the Beijing Fund Town, provides a platform for dialogue on best practices in the medical field between China and the United States and aims to achieve win-win cooperation between the two sides.
